Frankly, I did not think there was anything very special in Oslo, having travelled to several European towns.I arrived in Oslo from Tromso around 10PM and walked to the Park Inn hotel. The next day, my flight to Amsterdam was in the afternoon and hence I had about 4 hours to go around Oslo, excluding the travel time from and to the airport. I took the regional train to Oslo that was about INR 800 per adult cheaper than the Flytoget Airport Express and takes only 5 more minutes. But the frequeny of Flytoget Airport Express is great and on the return journey to the airport, I took the Airport Express train.
Oslo railway station is a very impressive building. Since time was short, I bought a day pass valid on all public transport(there was nothing for 6 hours or 8 hours). I only travelled by tram though with the first stop being Akershus Fortress. There was a huge cruise ship that was docked in the waters next to the fortress…it certainly was massive and I could not capture the full length on the camera from the top of the Fortress.
From here, I walked to the Town hall(beautiful building) and then to Aker Brygge. There a large number of boats berthed here and it was a pleasure to walk around this area. Plently of restaurants as well but unfortunately, all the ice creams shops were closed. Since it was early for lunch, I had to settle for starbucks coffee!

Boarded the tram again to Majorstuen. It passes through Frogner area which is the older part of the city with some beautiful villas, many with small balconies decorated with colorful flowers. At one junction where tram lines criss cross, there was even a water fountain….the trams pass over it …amazing sight. After a quick lunch in Majorstuen, I headed to the Frogner Park where the Sculpture park is located. There is a fair bit of walking and climbing the steps required but it is worth a visit. This is claimed to be the world’s largest sculpture park dedicated to a single artist – Gustav Vigeland. The sculptures depict human life and emotions.
