Mekedatu literally means ‘goats leap’ in Kannada. Located about 90 kms away from Bengaluru in Kanakapura district, this is where river Cauvery flows through a very narrow gorge that is no more than 10 meters wide. Legend has it that a goat, chased by a tiger, leapt over the gorge, thereby saving its life. It is located close to the Tamil Nadu border.
The river current is very strong, and the water deep. It’s very nice to sit on the rock and listen to the roar of the river as it flows by. But choose a location free from human beings! But do note that the granite rocks are slippery and hence, some caution is essential.

Sangama, where river Arkavati flows into river Cauvery is close by(about 4 kms). You can either go the Sangama first and then Mekedatu or do the reverse.
The river is quite broad here though there will not be much water except after a good monsoon.
Cleanliness could certainly be improved but tourists too need to take part of the blame.
If going after monsoons, you can also visit Chunchi falls which to close by.
Road condition
Best to take Kanakapura road and then Kanakpura-Sangama road though you can also come from Mysore road. Road condition is generally ok but in Karnataka, always watch out for road humps especially when nearing villages.
Restaurants
You will also find few restaurants between Kanakapura and NICE road junction in Bengaluru. Not much of a choice at Mekedatu-you can try Mayura or KSTDC restaurant near Sangama. Nothing great but manageable.
