A seaplane travel is definitely a bit unique and worth doing despite the cost. Choose a resort in Maldives that has options for seaplane transfers.
Typically, the cost of seaplane transfer is included in the cost of the resort package. Unfortunately, you cannot book separately. Rates do vary depending on distance. For a 35 minute ride, I paid ~USD400 per adult for return journey.
The seaplane can accommodate upto 15 passengers and hence will fly to 2 or more resorts to drop and pick passengers.
Once you report at the seaplane counter at Male airport, a bus takes you to the seaplane terminal. You can rest in the lounge while awaiting departure. Snacks/lunch is provided in the lounge.
The seating inside a seaplane is like a semi luxury bus. The configuration is 2 by 1. Pilots don’t always wear uniform and can be casually dressed. The seaplanes don’t have air-conditioning, but there are small fans and the cabin is not pressurized. Hence they fly fairly low.
The take off and landing on the sea is a bit bumpy but quite smooth otherwise. The views of the islands from the air are just fantastic. The pictures tell their own stories.
